Dear Reader,

As the COVID-19 virus ravaged the world and unprecedented political turbulence made turning on the news a reluctant task, MiNT Magazine has tried its hardest to thrive. I am proud to say that we have succeeded.

The magazine you have before you is a labor of love by a group of students who know that in times like these, giving a voice to creative work is one of the most important ways to persevere and cope with the lack of normalcy. We chose the theme Words, Words, Words not only because it was a reference to Shakespeare’s Hamlet but also because its humorous way of poking fun at the very thing we publish is an appealing tone to set in a world so sick of the chaos of 2020. Of course, that does not mean that every piece in this issue is fun and games. “Great Uncle Bill and Me” by Samuel Wright, for example, explores addiction and how it can run in families, and “Life of the Party” by Hayley Jones exposes the dark underbelly of the college party scene. But nonetheless, we do believe you can get lost in our digital pages and forget your woes if even for a short time by drowning yourself in Words, Words, Words.

I have to offer immense thanks to our e-board, whose consistent dedication, passion, and brilliancy breathed new life into this magazine. Although we’ve never met each other in person, our Zoom meetings have nonetheless embodied the humorous comradery that is characteristic of our editorial community, and I look forward to seeing this magazine flourish in your hands.

Finally, I must thank the most important group of all: you, the Geneseo community, who make up both our readers and our contributors. Without you, this magazine would not exist. Therefore, from all of us, we offer you the sincerest of thanks. May your families be healthy and happy, and may 2021 be better by far than 2020.

Lara Mangino, Editor-in-Chief
