Dear Reader

Whelp, it’s finally happened. The day we all knew was coming. MiNT Magazine is officially in Ashes.

Ashes are such an interesting symbol. In one sense, they are born from flames which represent warmth, heat, comfort, light, passion, creativity, and excitement. But they also signify the cessation of flames, which represents darkness and death. But from this dust heap, this little pile of gray powder, a phoenix pokes its head out and is reborn.

In life, we all follow a similar process. We go through high points of happiness and energy but then face challenges that bring us down and are difficult to fight against. However, we can always rise again; we claw our way out from the ashes, dust ourselves off, and start again.

This myriad of meanings all came to our minds when we suggested Ashes as our theme at our first meeting this semester. We liked the nuance of this one word and the variety of interpretations that writers and artists alike could have. So, as you flip through our magazine, the compilation of Geneseo students’ creative work and the product of our e-board’s collective passion for publication, think about these themes and the variety of ways students approached them.

This is my first semester as MiNT Magazine Editor-in-Chief, which means that in many ways, this is a rebirth for me as well as the magazine, as I take the reins of a club that I love so much. I want to thank my e-board for helping to dig me out of the ashes, and I look forward to seeing where this new life will take me.

Enjoy!
